The Eisenhower matrix takes a tangled to-do list and places each task into one of four quadrants, based on two simple questions: is it urgent, and is it important? What falls out is a clear set of actions. Important and urgent work gets done now. Important but not urgent work gets scheduled, so it stops slipping. Urgent but less important work can often be delegated, and anything neither urgent nor important is a candidate to drop.
The value for a coaching conversation is not the sorting itself but what it reveals. Many clients live almost entirely in the urgent column and rarely protect time for the important, non-urgent work that actually moves their goals. Seeing that pattern on a grid tends to make it undeniable, and it opens a useful discussion about where their week really goes and what they keep avoiding.
Because nothing is stored, you can run this openly in a session and treat the result as a working draft rather than a record. Turning those quadrants into a handful of concrete commitments, and following up on them inside a shared coaching workspace, is where the reflection becomes lasting change in how your client spends their attention.
